Bankroll Management

Most matched bettors will have a finite amount of liquid cash they can commit to making profit. We all have bills to pay and other outgoings, so managing your bankroll is an important skill to master.

Why bankroll management is important

When placing matched bets, your money is tied up and comes with an opportunity cost - the inability to place more until the previous bet settles.

There is always the option to cash out or 'trade out' on the exchange, but this can often be at a loss which is counter productive. You should adopt a bankroll management strategy, which ensures you never end up in this situation.

Bankroll management tips

1. Make a list of event starts - Keep an up to date tracker of the day each bet is due to settle. By doing this, you can forecast when more funds will be available.

2. Unless the event is today, tomorrow or exceptionally profitable, think twice - Generally, if the event is not today, tomorrow, or isn't exceptionally profitable, we would recommend delaying placing the bet. It is not catastrophic if the odds become unavailable.

3. Avoid low ROI bets unless they settle today - Unless the bet settles today, it is usually not worth placing. The opportunity cost of a low ROI bet is not worth the small profit margin available.
