What is Asian Handicap Betting?

Asian handicap betting is a form of sports betting on football. Teams in question are handicapped according to their quality, so that a stronger team needs to win by more goals for the bet to win. The same is true with asian handicaps on corners and cards. The team who are stronger for corners and cards, will need to receive more for the bet to win. The stronger team is always handicapped with a negative handicap, and the weaker team is always handicapped with a positive handicap.

Asian handicaps provide the opportunity for bet stakes to be partially or fully refunded. This is a feature not offered with regular handicap betting.

Asian Handicap Betting Help Sheet

Use the following help sheet to determine the outcome of your handicap bets, explained below:

Handicap 0.0

Treat in the same way as draw no bet. If your team wins, the bet wins. If you team loses, the bet loses. If the match is a draw, your bet stake is refunded. You do not add or subtract any goals/cards/corners to either team.

Handicap ±1, ±2, ±3 etc.

This is the most common form of handicap betting. At full time, you should add or subtract the amount of goals/cards/corners to your team according to the amount of handicap.

If after doing this your team is ahead, the bet wins. If your team is behind, the bet loses. If the handicapping creates a draw, your bet stake is refunded.

For example:

  • Full time: Burnley 1-3 Manchester City

  • Your bet: Burnley +2.0 asian handicap

  • New full time score: Burnley 3-3 Manchester City

  • Outcome: Stake refunded

The main difference between asian handicap betting and regular handicap betting is the opportunity to have a bet voided (refunded). If the example above was a regular handicap, the bet would lose.

Handicap ±0.5, ±1.5, ±2.5 etc.

Treat in the same way as regular match result with a slight difference. If your team wins, the bet wins. If you team loses, the bet loses. If the match is a draw, things are slightly different.

For example:

  • Full time: Burnley 1-1 Manchester City

  • Your bet: Burnley +0.5 asian handicap

  • New full time score: Burnley 1.5-1 Manchester City

  • Outcome: Bet wins

The same rules are applied as you move along the scale to ±1.5, ±2.5 etc.

For example:

  • Full time: Burnley 1-3 Manchester City

  • Your bet: Manchester City -2.5 asian handicap

  • New full time score: Burnley 1-0.5 Manchester City

  • Outcome: Bet loses

Handicap ±0.25, ±1.25, etc.

Asian handicap ±0.25 is the most complicated we have seen so far. The payout for these bets is separated into 2 parts. Half of your stake is placed on Asian handicap 0.0 (see above), and the other half is placed on Asian handicap ±0.5 (see above).

There are 4 possible outcomes:

  • Full winnings: both halves of the bet win.

  • Partial winnings: one half wins, one half refunds.

  • Half loss: one half loses, one half refunds.

  • Full loss: both halves of the bet lose.

If you place a bet using a ±0.25 asian handicap, see our help sheet above to determine your possible outcome.

Handicap ±0.75, ±1.75, etc.

Asian handicap ±0.75 is similar to 0.25 as above. As is the case with AH 0.25, your stake is split into halves. Half of the stake is placed on Asian handicap 0.5, and the other half on Asian handicap 1.0.

There are 4 possible outcomes:

  • Full winnings: both halves of the bet win.

  • Partial winnings: one half wins, one half refunds.

  • Half loss: one half loses, one half refunds.

  • Full loss: both halves of the bet lose.

If you place a bet using a ±0.75 asian handicap, see our help sheet above to determine your possible outcome.
